INTRODUCTION

John the Baptist was sent by The Almighty Father with a clear and focused mission. His work prepared hearts, called Israel to repentance, and pointed people to Messiah.

1. He turned the children of Israel back to The Almighty Heavenly Father (Luke 1:13–17).

2. He prepared the way for Messiah (Isaiah 40:3; Malachi 3:1; Luke 1:76).

3. He preached in the wilderness (Matthew 3:1–3).

4. He called people to repentance (Matthew 3:2; Luke 3:3).

5. He baptised with water for repentance (Mark 1:4).

6. He confronted hypocrisy among religious leaders (Matthew 3:7–10).

7. He taught people to live out repentance (Luke 3:10–14).

8. He testified that he was not the Messiah (John 1:20–23).

9. He pointed people to the Son of Man (John 1:26–27).

10. He identified the Son of Man as the Lamb sent by The Almighty Heavenly Father (John 1:29).

11. He baptised the Son of Man (Matthew 3:13–17).

12. He witnessed the Spirit descend upon Messiah at His Baptism (John 1:32–34).

13. He declared the coming baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11).

14. He decreased as the Son of Man increased (John 3:27–30).

CONCLUSION

In all the records of John’s baptism, Scripture does not state the Name he used when baptising. What is written is that he baptised in many waters, calling people to repentance and preparing them for Messiah (John 3:23).
